Nappies - reviews

Hi people,

I need a new brand of nappies.

We started with the huggies newborns (up to 5kg) since they were the cheapest. We grew out of those in 3 weeks.

Then we used the huggies infants (4-8kg). Now technically we aren't too big for these yet, but they just aren't able to take the ...erm... volume. We've had a few messy blowouts.

We've upgraded to huggies crawler (6-11kg) but these look massive on him.

So I'm looking for a disposable that is midway between these sizes. Also, in the bigger sizes, I don't think huggies is the cheapest anymore but I haven't had the leasure to stand in the shop and do the calculations.

Right now we are in cloth nappies thanks to a nappy service present from my ex-workmates. They aren't too bad but require a little extra attention since they don't have the space age technology to store moisture.

So what have you people used?

I suspect one nappy is pretty much as good as the next these days, but there may be some brands that are better than others.

I've been really happy with Baby Love and their semi-enviro-friendly version, EcoBots (sounds like a baby bottom robot or something. army of robot bottoms!). they're well priced and hold what they're meant to. the EcoBots are dearer but not hugely. we get them on special.

sometimes we go out to a warehouse in Castle Hill and buy in bulk. if people want to do that one day it's worth the trip. will find out current prices on what you usually buy if you want to compare. they sell cartons only, I think.

I haven't liked Bebe nappies. they're definitely well priced but we didn't like the fit or the function much. on some of them (but not all it seemed, not sure why) the strip across the top (which is for the sticky bits to stick to) was very plasticky and the nappies came undone too easily. not good. also thought their sizing was stupid.

We use either the Huggies or Babylove. The Babylove's still fit even though she's outgrown the same size in Huggies. Only thing I've found with the Babyloves is that Pers is prone to nappy rash if she wears these overnight, which she dosen't get from the Huggies.

Speedie - Castle Hill could be a good option. There's also a place in Parramatta that does nappies cheaply and a chemist in Merrylands which is really good. Will find out more if people want.

Wenchy, that's interesting, the Dinghy hasn't ever gotten a rash from the Babylove. I have craply reactive skin sometimes so I thought he might have too, but it's not bad so far. I wonder what's in them? I wonder if the Ecobots have less chemicals so therefore less reactions?

is the chemist in Merrylands called Cincotta? we used to get the nappies for the Child Care Centre there. really good bulk deals and they were nice people too. I think DV said she goes to a Cincotta in Campsie?

Yep, Cincotta. Didn't know they had one in Campsie.

I didn't realise there was a Cincotta in Merrylands. We used to get cheap formula from them.

The nappy we uese is Mammia from Aldi. It cam highly recommended from several internet forums.
The sizing is quite generous and we've had minimal problems.
about $15- for a big pack. Do't bother with their wipes brand or anything else, just the nappies. Apparently they also do a cheaper brand nappy that isn't worth looking at.

We love Babyloves as well. No probs with nappy rash overnight. Very absorbent. I actually started using them (when Charlie was a baby) because a friend of mine did a test and found them to be more absorbent than Huggies. If there is a Big W nearby you can also buy big boxes of them for about $33. Gemma wears the 4-8kg size, 128 per box. You can probably get better deals at some of the warehouses down there.

Sounds like he's growing well!

Yup. If there's one thing I can be proud of... we got a big baby.

He eats big, he pukes big, he farts big and he poos big. DV can attest to his mightiness, as she helpfully loaned me a pair of Nw's pants so I could get home today without looking like a freak.

Dignity, why hast thou forsaken me?

Don't worry, you'll get to the point where wearing baby vomit on your sleeve is a badge of honour. Well that's what I told myself at least when I finally got to the point where either I didn't have a spare t-shirt and/or the energy to wash another one.

god I'm glad the Dinghy doesn't puke... blech!

btw we do have the occasional armour failure at night with the Babylove, but in general I reckon they cope well overnight. we tried sticking a larger Huggies over the top, but it didn't work.
